Turkeys, geese and ducks are used for pest control in the vineyards.
No insecticides / pesticides are used in the vineyards (Natural predators are used)
Cellar
Open cement fermenters on the outside of the cellar, where wine making was started. The juice was collected and pumped into the holding tanks (today they serve as our function venue).
Look for the old tartaric acid still stuck on the walls!
Garden
Where the palm tree is now, is where Lourens would’ve kept his animals at night, protected from lions and leopards.
All the oak trees are planted in a square formation, take note of the symetrical arrangement of the oak trees in and around the farm yard. Bushes would’ve been planted in between to also keep out the leopards and lions.
The old oak outside to the left of the cellar door, would have been planted by Lourens Campher or Ansela herself!
The pond outside was used by Canitz as a swimming pool.
